The Messaging Engine uses only genuine IBM servers,
with fully redundent cooling, hard drives, and power supplies. The
servers are located in a facility in an area with no risk of flooding
or geological disturbances, and is connected to five redundent network
backbones. All routers and switches are fully redundent. Resource
utilisation is kept under 50%.
All mail data is backed up to four different locations,
including a hard-disk based 'per-folder backup' that allows end
users to restore individual folders even if they accidently delete
some of their emails.
The whole system is fully scalable; for instance,
an extra hundred thousand users can be added on demand by simply
adding extra servers. The entire server setup system is fully automated,
so The Messaging Engine can respond to your needs for extra capacity
quickly and easily.
Reliability is ensured through a number of features:
- We have developed in-house a sophisticated,
automated spam and abuse control systems that has successfully
locked out every user attempting to use The Messaging Engine partners
for bulk email, within 5 minutes of such an attempt being made.
- This means that your users never have to suffer
slow periods while our server deals with mail abuse
- We have developed a
sophisticated auditing system that tests the web server every
15 minutes by logging in to the web interface, sending
an email, confirming receipt of the email (with 5 seconds!) and
testing a range of other features. Any problem, and the services
are restarted after outputting detailed logging information, and
two engineers are immediately paged
- Complete uptime information is made available
to all partners and end users
- Mail and name servers are redundantly located
in the US, Norway, and Australia, to ensure that no mail is lost
- A separate server in Norway provides
feedback on the status of the main server in the US, and if any
problem occurs, it provides a detailed diagnostic of the exact
problem source and suggested steps. Certain privileged users in
the US, Israel, Norway, India, Japan, and Australia have a special
password that allows them to take emergency steps such as paging
engineers, and of course our engineers keep their pagers on 24
hours a day
